First Opinion

Upon a brief review of Owen's films, Dr. Sutton of CHOP provided us with his opinion. He feels that Owen has a low-grade benign tumor and did not recommend a biopsy. He feels that since the tumor cells are intertwined with the healthy cells then the biopsy may result in a sample of healthy cells - so we still wouldn't have an answer. Also, he spoke about the possible dangers of performing a biopsy in the area where Owen's tumor lives. He didn't recommend radiation because Owen is under the age of 3. He thought chemo may be a possibility but he didn't recommend it at this time. He feels that we should wait and see if the tumor grows, which with our relentless prayers it should not grow.

Your continued prayers are working. We made it home quickly and safely. We cruised through NYC during rush hour time and there was no traffic! Also, our prayers have been answered and Owen's case will be reviewed tomorrow morning at the Boston Children's Hospital (sometimes there is a waiting list of several weeks). We will then meet with Dr. Kieran at 2pm to get his recommendations.

Also, we're scheduled for Sloan next Monday and Johns Hopkins next Tuesday... then we'll meet with our local oncologist next Friday to make a decision on the course of treatment. Please pray for safe travels to Boston. After Boston we will spend some time in RI with my parents before returning home.

We can't thank you enough for your continued prayers.

  3. Jennifer, My niece's son had the same condition. He was diagnosed at 10 months and is now 4 and doing well. I know this is a terrible ordeal but we are all thinking of you and sending strength to Owen. Babies are amazingly resilient critters and Owen is in great shape if he has his mom's spirit. Thanks for sharing the updates. Don't hesitate to tell all who love you if the medical bills and travel costs get to be too much. The last thing you need now is extraneous worries.

    Much love,
