Hopeful.

Today's appointment with Dr. Kieran at the Boston Children's Hospital left us very hopeful. In short (because we were there for four hours), the next step is a specialized MRI in about 3 weeks. The MRI will last over an hour and Owen will need to be put to sleep again. This MRI will serve as the benchmark for his tumor. Since he had so much fluid and swelling during the first MRI, it was difficult to tell the size of the tumor.

After the MRI, they will then assess the next step, which would be either wait a few months for another MRI or perform a biopsy. Dr. Kieran felt that due to the size of the tumor the biopsy would be possible. Dr. Kieran feels that the biopsy is necessary, because he would like to know the type of tumor before treating it with chemo. There are so many variables at this time that we just have to wait and see... waiting is always the hardest part though. During the wait, we will pray and hope for the best. Dr. Kieran was amazing. We had such a great feeling when we left the hospital. He kindly answered all our questions and seemed very optimistic, which left us feeling very hopeful.

We were grateful to see our friends Sam, Helena, and Jillian today. They all met us for lunch at the Children's Hospital. It was nice to be surrounded by our friends.
